You know, the best recipes in my opinion come from sheer boredom, and that’s exactly how this recipe came to be. It was a boring Monday night and I was doing my weekly pantry cleaning, when I came across a bottle of Hoisin Sauce. The last time I used this bottle was for my Chinese Fake-Out: Loaded Lo-Mein I did a few months back. The hoisin sauce was still good, and I wanted to make something that wouldn’t require a lot of time in the kitchen. Most of the ingredients in this recipe I already had in my pantry, so I didn’t have to buy anything extra. I used chicken thighs instead of breasts because they tend to hold their flavor and juices better.
-
Ingredients
- 8 Fresh Chicken Thighs (washed and dried)
- 1 10 oz. bottle Honey
- 1 Cup Hoisin Sauce**
- 1 Tbsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Ground Ginger
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 cup Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
Instructions
- In a large Tupperware container with a lid, add the Hoisin Sauce, Black Pepper, Ground Ginger, Cayenne Pepper and Lemon Juice. Whisk until fully combined.
- Add the chicken, seal the container tightly and shake until the chicken is fully coated. Place in the fridge to marinate about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Heat a large cooking skillet on Medium High. Add four pieces of chicken (DON'T CROWD THE PAN) and cook about 6-7 minutes on each side. Remove and place in a separate oven-safe pan.
- Cook the remaining four pieces and set in the pan. Place chicken in oven and allow to cook for an additional 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, remove from oven, tent with foil, and allow chicken to rest for about 5-10 minutes.
- For the finishing touches, drizzle honey over the chicken and garnish with sesame seeds. ( I didn't have any so I used parsley for that pop of color).
- Serve.
- ** Hoisin Sauce has a HIGH sodium content which is why I didn't include additional salt in the recipe.
