We’ve all had crab cakes at one point in our lives. It’s usually the same breaded song and dance. Well my Crabster Cakes are sure to make you forget about those breaded hockey pucks you had that night! This had to be my most ambitious recipe to date, and I’m so proud of how these Crabster (Crab and Lobster) Cakes turned out! It was a lengthy process in making it, but so worth it in the end. I wanted to add some vegetables as well for texture and to break up all the meat ( Who am I kidding, I loved all that meat in every bite). I will say this, I use a gas stove, so the cook time will vary if you are using an electric stove. The crabster cakes will certainly be a hit at dinner time!
Homemade Crabster Cakes
-
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Canned Lump Crab Meat
- 2 Lobster Tails (Steamed )
- 1/2 cup Red Pepper (Diced)
- 1/2 cup Yellow Pepper (Diced)
- 1/2 cup Onion (Diced)
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs (Regular)
- 1 Cup Mayo
- 2 Tbsp Dijon Mustard
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tbsp Old Bay Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Minced Garlic
- 8 dashes Hot Sauce
Instructions
- In a medium-sized skillet cook the onions and peppers for about 10 minutes until they just start to sweat. Add the minced garlic and cook 1 minute more. Set aside for later.
- In a Large bowl, add the lump crab meat (Check for any remaining shell pieces). If you haven't already, remove the lobster meat from the shell, dice it and add in with the crab meat. Next, add the veggie mixture into the bowl. Then, add the breadcrumbs, the eggs (scramble them before you pour), and the remaining seasonings and sauces into the bowl. Carefully fold and combine the mixture together. You want a chunky consistency, so don't fold too much. Cover and place in the fridge for 30-40 minutes to allow mixture to firm up.
- Heat a large skillet to medium-high heat, adding 4 tbsp. of cooking oil.
- Scoop out about 1/2 cup of the crabster mixture and shape into a patty about 1/2 inch in diameter.
- This should make about at 8 patties, depending on how large you make them.
- Place patties into the pan, 4 at a time to avoid crowding, and cook about 5-7 minutes on both sides, or until golden brown.
- Remove, garnish with sauce if you desire. Serve immediately.

Yes! That was the goal! One or two large crab cakes packed with flavor vs. 4 breaded hockey pucks with maybe some crab if you’re lucky
Thank you so much!!! Let me know how it goes when you do!
NEED! I love crab cakes but they are always so small when you order them out. This is the perfect size, yum!
This crabster cake looks amazing!!! I have never had crab and lobster combined in one cake. And that sauce dripping on top is the perfect finishing touch. Can’t wait to try this!
